What Is HTML + CSS?

HTML is an acronym for Hyper Text Markup Language. It the standard markup language used for creating web pages. We call it the lingo of the web! 🙂 Just like you may be speaking Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba, Esan or any other language, the language that web pages communicate with is called HyperText Markup Language (popularly known as HTML).

The key role of HTML in web designing/development is simply to structure the web pages…you know the bonny framework? Ehen! 🙂 ANd to give structure to web pages, HTML employs some building blocks called elements which are denoted by tags.

Well, this simply stands for eXtensible HyperText Markup Language. You’ll learn about it as you study the course.

On the other hand, CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) is a very power tool that is used to define the style, presentation, layout and lots more of a web page. The beauty of its power lies in the fact that it can control the layout and presentation of a lot of web pages at once! This is going to be a powerful tool in your belt.
